COVID-19 prevention training :  Mongolian peacekeepers in Afghanistan Mongolian peacekeepers in Afghanistan takes part in COVID-19 prevention .  The 11th batch of Mongolian peacekeepers, serving jointly with the German Armed Forces in the NATO-led “Resolute Support” mission in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, organized training in cooperation with the military trainers of Germany and Belgium on “Survival skills” and “COVID-19 prevention” at the site and mutually exchanged experiences. The training on survival skills featured theoretical and practical training in sheltering, firefighting, water retrieval, rope knotting, topographic orientation, and tactical retrieval in the desert region. Moreover, a joint training on COVID-19 prevention was held for health and hygiene doctors of Germany, camp Marmal and other military doctors. Mongolian Wrestlers World Top-10

Picture Credit : VOM website  United World Wrestling (UWW) renewed the 2020 world rankings based on the wrestlers’ score which they harvested during their participation in the tournaments including Matteo Pellicone, European Championships, Asian Championships, and Pan-American Championships. Two male and three female athletes of the Mongolian Wrestling team ranked in the World Top-10. Specifically, State Honored Athlete E.Bekhbayar and IM T.Tulga  ranked 10 th  in 53 kg and in 65 kg respectively. As for the female athletes, IM B.Bolortuya ranked 7 th  in 55 kg, IM B.Shoovdor ranked 5 th  in 59 kg and the Hero of Labor S.Battsetseg ranked 8 th  in 68 kg.

The ‘Genghis Khan’ exhibition in Kansas USA

Picture from VOM Web The ‘Genghis Khan’ exhibition about the Mongol Empire as well as the Great Khan of the Empire and his descendants has officially opened in Kansas City in the U.S. state of Missouri. Around 300 guests including Ambassador of Mongolia to the United States Otgonbayar attended the opening event held at Union Station Kansas City, enjoying Mongolian folk art concert. The exhibition, which is of great importance in presenting Mongolia’s customs, culture, life, and history to U.S. people and deepening understanding between the peoples of the two countries, offers an opportunity to experience life in 13th-century Mongolia by visiting replicas of tents, battlegrounds, and marketplaces and view 200 spectacular objects from that period such as gold jewelry and ornaments, silk robes, musical instruments, pottery, and sophisticated weaponry. 

Mongolia in International Robot Contest

Mongolian team wins second place at international robot contest Picture Credit: Voice of Mongolia Webpage Under the auspices of Prime Minister Khurelsukh, the 18th ABU Robocon 2019 Mongolia, the international robot contest was jointly held in Ulaanbaatar, organized by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union and the Mongolian National Public Radio and Television. As the host country, two national teams of Mongolia got the right to partake in the competition. Out of 17 teams of 16 countries, the Hong Kong team won first place by defeating the first team of Mongolia in the final match. Furthermore, Best Idea Award went to the Indonesian team, Best Engineering Award to the Chinese team and Best Design Award to the Japanese team.

‘Treasures of Chinggis Khaan descendants’ will open at the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, Russia in October. Within the framework of ‘Mongolian heritage spread around the world’ project, an exhibition titled ‘Treasures of Chinggis Khaan descendants’ will open at the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, Russia in October. The exhibition will feature rare findings related to the Mongol Empire, especially to the Golden Horde. In addition, the National Museum of Mongolia and the Institute of History and Archaeology plan to display every 10 exhibits at the upcoming exhibition. According to the Cabinet’s decision made at its regular meeting on August 14, the cost of organizing the exhibition will be covered from the Government Reserve Fund. Mongolian Won ‘Dancon UNMISS 2019’

Picture from VOM Web Mongolian peacekeeper Otgonjargal who is serving in UNMISS peacekeeping operation won first place in the women's category of ‘ Dancon UNMISS 2019’ march. She is a senior leader of Firefighting and rescues unit No.32 of the Emergency Department of Khentii province.  The 25 km marathon has been organized among international peacekeepers since 1972. Participants must carry 10 kg to compete in the tournament. Some 352 peacekeepers from 37 countries competed in the march, of which 157 were women. Otgonjargal is the third Mongolian woman serving in the UNMISS peacekeeping operation. Source: VOM English

Coal rail link to China

Mongolia plans coal rail link to China by 2021 Picture Credit : Voice of Mongolia website Mongolia aims to complete a railway from its Tavan Tolgoi coal project to the Chinese border by 2021. The rail link from Tavan Tolgoi would have the capacity to deliver 30 million tonnes of coal a year to China, said Samdandovj Ashidmunkh, chief investment officer of the state firm running the project. The link will be completed within two years of an overseas initial public offering of stock in Tavan Tolgoi scheduled for the first quarter of 2019, Ashidmunkh, of Erdenes-Tavan Tolgoi, said on the sidelines of a forum in Shanghai on China-Mongolia cooperation in mining. Mongolia expects demand for high quality coking coal from China’s steel sector to increase, but many analysts in China believe steel production is nearing its peak and could start to fall. Tavan Tolgoi is the world’s largest undeveloped coking coal mine with 7.4 billion tons of estimated reserves.

Ulaanbaatar Official Visitors Guide Published

Official Guidebook and City map of Ulaanbaatar has been published. City Tourism Department of Ulaanbaatar released “Ulaanbaatar Official Visitors Guide” and “Ulaanbaatar Official Tourist Map” for the tourist to provide the necessary information of the city. The guidebook introduces all the main cultural regions of Ulaanbaatar city and contains contacts of tourist information centers, embassies, ambulances, police etc. It also provide the information on how to buy a bus ticket and how to order a taxi. “Ulaanbaatar Official Tourist Map” includes the map of Peace Avenue which is the main tourist area of Ulaanbaatar city and Terelj National park. Moreover, the map shows entertainment areas, the biggest shopping centers, restaurants, embassies, and hospitals. Soon the guidebook and the map can be downloaded at the designated website of Virtual Ullaanbaatar. source: Voice of Mongolia
